Although the size of Piauí is quite considerable, with over 97,115.000 sq mi, the state has only a 41 miles long stretch of coast. The crime rate of the capital, which has a population of just over 800,000, is low to moderate compared to other large cities in Brazil. However, since the capital is more than 217 miles away from the coast and the local airport Senador Petronio Portella (THE) only handles national flights, kitesurfers in Brazil are unlikely to get into this corner.
